A native of Brooklyn, New York, Derrick is the son of a former MTA bus operator and proud member of TWU Local 100. One of his earliest memories is of his mother participating in the 2005 New York City transit strike, an experience that underscored the importance of union representation for workers and their families. At Bredhoff, Derrick represents unions and their members in litigation, advocating for workers’ rights in federal and state courts, before administrative agencies, and in arbitration.
Before joining the firm, Derrick clerked for the Honorable David J. Barron of the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.
Derrick earned his J.D. from Yale Law School, where he was an Articles & Essays Editor of the Yale Law Journal, a board member of the Law and Political Economy (LPE) Project, and a research assistant to leading constitutional law scholars. At Yale, he also served as a law student intern with the Worker and Immigrant Rights Advocacy Clinic (WIRAC). In this role, he collaborated with two union locals representing hotel workers in Southwestern Connecticut and contributed to a civil rights case challenging the treatment of individuals with disabilities in immigration custody.
He earned his B.S. from the New York State School of Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University in 2018, where he was awarded the State University of New York Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence.
Outside of his practice, Derrick is an avid runner, reader, and chess enthusiast.
