Navigating Troubled Waters

Bredhoff & Kaiser has an active practice representing institutions and individuals faced with grand jury, Labor Department, Internal Revenue Service, Congressional, and other government investigations. In this part of our practice, we represent individuals as well as institutions. Many of these investigations are out of public view.

As examples of our practice in this area, we have represented a union that received a federal grand jury subpoena in Boston, union officials whom a Congressional committee demanded that the IRS make available to testify about alleged misconduct at the IRS, and attorneys who were under investigation by state bar associations.

We are regularly called on to assist labor organizations in preparing for and responding to audits, both random and targeted, by agencies within the Department of Labor. In this vein, Bredhoff attorneys have gained significant experience in responding to intensive audits conducted by the Office Labor Management Standards (OLMS) pursuant to that agency’s International Compliance Audit Program (ICAP). Because of their expertise in this area, Bredhoff lawyers have been invited to speak at professional conferences and webinars on best practices in responding to such audits.
