Of Counsel

Deirdre (Deedee) Fitzpatrick

Deirdre (Deedee) Fitzpatrick has been a labor lawyer for 25 years and has served in a variety of capacities throughout her career. She joined the firm as Of Counsel in 2022, and currently serves as General Counsel to Climate Jobs National Resource Center and Climate Jobs National Resource Center Action Fund, labor led organizations committed to educating workers and the public about policies that will build a clean energy economy at the scale climate science demands, create good union jobs, and create more equitable communities.

Prior to joining Bredhoff & Kaiser, Deedee held several leadership roles over her 16 years with the Service Employees International Union. Most recently, Deedee served as the International Union’s Chief of Staff, and then as Senior Counsel and Strategic Advisor to the International President. Before that, Deedee served as Deputy Chief of Staff and as a Deputy to the International Secretary-Treasurer. She started in SEIU’s Legal Department in 2006 as an Associate General Counsel where she provided counsel to numerous organizing campaigns and corporate social responsibility campaigns in the public and private sectors, represented SEIU’s interests in a variety of matters and in litigation brought by employers, and provided counsel on complex internal governance matters.

In addition to SEIU, Deedee worked as Staff Counsel at the National Education Association where she focused on charter school organizing efforts, and as an Associate at McGillivary Steele Elkin, LLP, where she pursued constitutional and wage and hour litigation on behalf of various unions representing first responders. After law school and a clerkship with the Massachusetts Superior Court, Deedee served for several years as a Staff Attorney in the Appellate Court Branch of the National Labor Relations Board, where she briefed and argued cases before the Federal Courts of Appeals.

Deedee earned her JD from Northeastern University School of Law, a Masters of Arts with Distinction in Linguistic Anthropology from the University of New Mexico, and a Bachelor of Arts with high honors in Linguistics from the University of Florida. Deedee is proud to have joined the labor movement in 1994 as an adjunct professor of anthropology and linguistics in New Mexico, during the college’s first-ever organizing drive.
